Which way do I use to whiten my teeth if I had bad brushing habits when I was younger?
My teeth are not white. They are not very attractive to myself and others. This is not me wanting a brighter smile. This is me at least getting a dull “white” smile. I’m not sure what remedy I should use because everyone has a different problem. I know mine is from not brushing my teeth when I was younger (parents never enforced it and I was a little kid so I didn’t understand what it would do to me when I was older). My teeth aren’t super crooked, but I do have a big gap in between my two front teeth and my smile is not aligned when I smile. I had braces for 6 months and I could no longer afford making payments. I plan to get them soon again, but the dentist said they don’t think they can fix the gap. Help? I have low self esteem now because of this and my confidence has gone out the window. It’s hard smiling when everyone around you had beautiful teeth and that’s all you see.

There are special mouthwashes available for smokers available from shops like Boots and Superdrug. You can also use baking soda dissolved in water as a mouthwash to help whiten teeth.
Don’t use toothpastes like pearl drops that promise to whiten your teeth within 30 days, as these work by stripping the outer layers of enamel on your teeth, so yes they will whiten them, but at great cost to your dental hygeine.
Also, don’t bother with regular “whitening” toothpastes, as the whitening ingredients are too diluted to make a difference. You should go to a hygenist or dentist and get a prescription toothpaste, which will contain whitening ingredients in a strong enough concentration. Alternatively they can give you whitening treatment that will work a lot faster, though this can be expensive.
