Can a cosmetic dentist change the length of my teeth?
When I smile, barely any of my top teeth are visible. Braces will straighten the teeth (although they aren’t really crooked), but would a cosmetic dentist actually be able to change the length of the teeth or whatever so that my more of my teeth actually show when I smile? I always smile with my mouth shut now and would like to be able to naturally smile like most everyone else. Also, since insurance doesn’t cover cosmetic procedures, how much would something like that cost?

Go in for a consultation to an orthodontist and ask about the length of your teeth. The orthodontist may suggest a combination of braces and veneers or crown lengthening. Experienced orthodontists work with a network of other specialists who can work together to achieve the results you want.
Don’t forget that “cosmetic dentistry” is not a true recognized specialty by the American Dental Association – so just about any dentist can call themselves a “cosmetic” dentist. Check around, ask your general dentist or get references.
