Teeth whitening, at home or in-office? Zoom or Opalescence?

I’ve read a lot of bad reviews online about the Zoom treatments not being worth it… Is it better to order your own whitening solution (opalescence) or go to a dentist and get the Zoom?
Also how would I go about getting a custom molded tray if I do that at home treatment?

You should go to your dentist to find out what is best for you. People have higher expectations when they go in-office as opposed to doing it themselves – that could be one reason you read bad reviews about Zoom, but it does get the best result in the shortest amount of time. You just need to have a dentist who is familiar with the procedure and can isolate the teeth from the lips and gums so they don’t get burned from the lamp (another possible reason for bad reviews). It’s intense and it can hurt, but it also only takes about an hour as opposed to months.

It will take longer to get results with the take home gel because the formula is weaker and not assisted by the lamp, but it still works if you have the patience and diligence to use it regularly. It will still have a peroxide active ingredient. You still need to go to a dentist to get the trays, however, because they need to take an impression of your teeth to make the tray. Mouth guards you dip in hot water to mold to your teeth really don’t work very well. They don’t form to your teeth as well and they’re usually made of a thicker material – and you want something that fits perfectly so the peroxide doesn’t touch and burn your gums.

Either way it’s up to you, but I recommend you see a trusted dentist because you may have a condition that requires specific treatment because of stains due to tetracycline or if you’ve had restorative work done on your teeth.
