Mouth Guards
I grind my teeth in my sleep, what brand of mouth guards work well?
I researched several options but have zero knowledge about whether they are worth the cost…Sleepright mouth gurads are 70 bucks! Do I really need to spend that much? Do dentists make better custom mouth guards? How much do they cost?
You can ask your dentist, or some of his/her office personnel, about some commercial brands that they recommend. I had purchased the brand that you mentioned, for my wife about a year ago. They were about $59.00 (not including shipping),via internet purchase. She has been totally satisfied with them. A prior brand she had were too uncomfortable, and would cause her to “drool” while she slept! You may experiment with a less expensive brand, if price is your obstacle. Comfort was her problem. Needless to say, we don’t look that great when we wake up in the morning, but that extra touch of “drool”, will really set it off! I felt she was worth it. Splurge a little for your smiles sake. Your teeth will be with you for a long time if you give them good treatment. If a brand doesn’t allow you to fully close your mouth, causes drooling, or pressure sores on the inside of your mouth, then that is not a good brand.
For the dentist to make the mold and custom shape a guard for you can be a bit more pricey, and not necessarily any better than a good commercial brand(depends on how good your dentist is). By the way, any item you can purchase over the counter in stores, can be purchased a little cheaper over the internet with a debit or credit card. Good luck on your selection!
