Nocturnal Bruxism
Muscles Swollen Under My Chin, With Dry Mouth?
I’ve been clenching my teeth in my sleep, and because I am a 30-yr old smoker, I’m a little worried that it could be oral cancer… It’s not the glands that are swollen. It’s the muscles, and it feels like my tongue and base of my mouth are swollen, too. I’ve looked around, and done a self-exam at home, but I can’t find anything that would indicate oral cancer.
Does anyone have this or know what it is? I know that I have TMJ, and that I’ve been suffering from nocturnal bruxism. It’s a little disturbing when your mouth feels so dry and swollen (not visibly swollen, by the way) that you feel tongue-tied.
It doesn’t sound like cancer to me.
There are a few possibilities. The swelling could be swollen lymph nodes in your neck. They swell if you have an infection or if you have a lot of bug bites. You have lymphs in the side of your neck and under your jawline. If you are stuffy and sneezy, coupled with your dry mouth (caused partly from breathing through your mouth) this may be probable.
You may have in infection in your jaw, or tongue. Do you have any ulcers or open sores?
Also. clenching teeth more than normal in your sleep would naturally cause muscle pain.
I would definitely suggest going to visit your doctor asap. Not because I think it’s cancer, but just so you can get this checked out and taken care of before it gets worse.
